1. FINALLY!

   Finally!! A DVR service that people who use their RV like my husband and I do for the majority of the year!! It just plugs into your box and the tv, you don’t need an extra outlet; it’s small and user friendly as well. I’ve been waiting for something like this for about 5 years! Thanks DISH!!

   A little disappointed as we thought we could record 2 things at the same time skit. But no, you can only record one at a time.

   I agree with other review that $40 seems high just to type a couple of keys and activate the service. But its not that bad. We love being able to record & especially pause. The only drawback is that you have to watch the channel you are recording. You can set it to record future airings, as long as you make sure they do not overlap end time / start times. I set it to record movies after we go to bed and it work great. I figure we will record a lot of shows so when the weather turn bad or your dont have reception because of trees.
   
   I did not use the dish hard drive. i had a WD 3TB, 3.0 hard rive sitting in a drawer and it hooked up to the Wally with no hassles and seems to work great. (full disclosure the WD 3TB is $165 on amazon. I did not try one of the less expensive 1TB 3.0 units. but I may order one just to see if it will work on our second Wally that has its own dish. I will update if it works)

   A bit pricy for a one TB drive, but works fine. No seperate power supply if you are wondering. Powered via the USB cord.

   Very easy to set up but the $40 activation fee is high. Works well. rated 4 star due to activation fee.

   I gave the product a 3 star because it does work... But, this 2.0 Hard Drive is the only one compatible with the Wally. Essentially, one has to buy it from dish outdoors because no one else sells them anymore. I bought a 3.0 from Staples and was assured 3.0 would work if a 2.0 was suggested. That is not the case. 3.0 is not comparable with the Wally, I also checked with Best Buy and on line and could find no other source for a 2.0 than dish outdoors.
   
   Dish needs to upgrade their RV remote access Wally for technology that allows a hard drive to be purchased at electronic suppliers where the cost for twice the memory is less than for this out dated old technology.

   Great product when combined with Wally. The DVR functions as advertised. It's great for recording when you're not available live.

   When used with the Wally it functions as advertised with plenty of storage. The Hard Drive has one cable with a USB plug that incorporates a 12vdc power input that plugs into the Wally. No other power supply is needed. The Wally is a single receiver so it's not the Hopper. However, if you're busy vacationing in the great out doors but still want to record the news for later viewing, you can do it. If you're smarter than me & decide not to watch the news while on vacation, there's movies to record for later. We couldn't be happier. And the best part, no additional monthly cost for the DVR option. There was a $40 one time fee, but well worth it for us.

9. Can't record and watch something else

   I would still buy but was disappointed that I could not record one show and watch another. You have to watch what your recording.
   But it does come in handy if your gone. You can record and watch later.

    Listen, I just plugged in the unit called Dish and since the software is already loaded in the Wally it began working immediately. Nothing could be easier. And it works well. Just remember if you're leaving set the channel you want to record on the dish before you turn it off or it won't be able to record your preset station. Love it!

13. Nice addition to the hopper

    This DVR upgrade is a nice addition to my hopper, traveling on the road for weeks at a time this helps whenever I lose signal for whatever reason. One draw back, which I think it's due to having a hopper is that I can't watch one show and record another so I set it up to record over night or when I'm not there. It records and picture is great, it was a definite plus to my set up.

    I have been hesitant adding / upgrading my Dish equipment because the receivers really don't last very long. Now that I purchase the replacement plan I decided to add a DVR and it is sweet. 390 hours of storage in a tiny package.
    
    I called Dish was I plugged it in and they let it self program and updated my records to make sure there were no issues. They waved the programing charge so I was good to go. Been recording movies to watch when weather conditions don't allow good sat connection. I am quite pleased with this upgrade.

    Bought this to record shows with Wally. Disappointments:
    1. No manuals to be found on how to use this DVR.
    2. Only records one channel at a time - Wally limitation.
    3. Really wanted equipment that will record multiple channels at the same time. Should have purchased a different receiver, but was not able to accurately determine what my receiver options were before I purchased.

    We have ordered two of these DVR's over the last couple of years. We like that they are small, but feel they are a little over priced. However, that life!

    We wanted to record tv while we were away from our rv and I found this hard drive on dishformyrv and it was perfect for what I needed. It was easy to just to plug hdmi into receiver and call dish to activate and just like that we had a dvr.

20. No brainer install

    Added this to my 5th Wheel RV. Plugged it in and called the 800 number shown. Within 10 minutes it was up and running. And I am no rocket scientist when it come to technology.
